Blepharoplasty for medical reasons?

People assume that a Blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as Eyelid surgery is carried out for vanity reasons but that is not always the case, many people undergo this procedure for medical purposes too.

The Blepharoplasty is carried out to correct the appearance of the eyes either due to fatty deposits or excessive skin which can cause sagging eyelids and in some cases impair vision. As we grow older the eyes are probably the first area to really show the signs of ageing

A good example of a well-known person who has undergone Blepharoplasty for medical purposes is Lord Alan Sugar. Back in 2007, the 59-year-old electronics tycoon had the operation due to problems with his vision. A qualified pilot, he explained that droopy skin overhanging his eyelids was threatening to block his sight and stop him pursuing his hobby of flying Learjets.

Affected vision is a common symptom that patients describe when attending consultation, corrective surgery is usually minor and can often be carried out under local anaesthetic as a daycase patient.

It is often one of those procedures where your friends and family can’t quite put their finger on what is different but for the patient body image is restored again.
